Description Field notes were contributed by Richard Jule Hollis, winter 1983-1984. Field notes for Johnson County covered a late Pied-billed Grebe, correction in number of Black Terns, and an American Crow carrying nesting material February 28. A Varied Thrush was documented in Wellman along with Barbara Henderson, and also seen in Perry, Spencer, and Ames. Included was a G. Edgar Folk letter to Hollis regarding sightings of a Western Rufus-sided Towhee (Spotted Towhee) near Oxford, Iowa, January 27, 1984. These items were used as supporting documentation for the Iowa Ornithologists’ Union Quarterly field report of winter 1983-1984.
