Other documentation forms by Loren Padelford and Babs Padelford, Tanya Bray, Francis L. Moore, Thomas H. Kent, Ross Silcock, Barbara L. Wilson, and Steve Dinsmore were submitted later. Other observers include Jim Dinsmore, Betty Grenon, Graham Chisholm, David Starr, B.J. Rose, Duane Bright, Nancy Curry, Al Werthman, and Melba Wigg. | Elimination of similar species: Bird was noticed flying with seven greater white-fronted geese (A. albifrons), first noticed as significantly larger than accompanying A. albifrons, flew pas several times at distances greater than 200m. Some primaries were damaged. The A. albifrons all had visible pink bills, white faces, and speckled bellies (all adults) The A. fabalis was ca. 125% the size of A. albifrons, with a longer neck, longer bill, and a swan-like profile. Underside plain, grading from the dark brown at chin to white at the vent. Gray-brown above, back feathers with contrasting light edges, primaries dark. Bill: significantly longer than A. albifrons, dark with light area near or at tip, long head profile. Feet: orange. White above and at tip of tail as in A. albifrons. | The original documentation form event lasted from 15:00:00/15:30:00.

Other observers include Jim Fuller and Jim Sandrock. | Elimination of similar species: Horned grebes in winter plumage were present, they are about 1/2 the size of this loon, have a much shorter straight bill and the head shape is flatter. Common loon is much larger with a correspondingly large straight black bill, head held straight. Arctic loon in winter plumage would have less white in the facial area, a straight dark bill, less contrast from the facial area to cup/nape. | The original documentation form event lasted from 06:15:00/06:45:00.

The documentation letter by Ken Lowder is the only one submitted and forms the basis of this record. Other observers include John Daniel. | Elimination of similar species: It acted differently from the Common Loons. When it dove, it "reared back" its head, as though it were "winding up" for the dive. The Common Loons did not do this. In the Walsh article, this behavior is discussed. On page 26 of his article, Walsh states that "both Pacific and Artic Loons have similar diving motions." I do not believe our bird was a Pacific Loon. I base this judgement on overall body size, bill size, and the distribution of white coloration in the head/neck, waterline, and flank areas. Our bird was essentially similar size-wise to the accompanying Common Loons. The bill was also similar to Common Loon. It was not upturned and this as I would have expected with Red-throated Loon.

The documentation form by Stephen J. Dinsmore is the only one submitted and forms the basis of this record. | Elimination of similar species: This smaller loon was dark gray across the back and wings, slightly darker than the Common Loon with it. [...] The whole neck pattern was much different and cleaner looking than the Common Loon. The bill was dark, short, and straight. It was about 1/3 shorter than the bill of the Common Loon and had a stockier appearance. [...] Common Loon eliminated above. Red-throated Loon eliminated by the dark back, neck pattern, and bill size and shape. | The original documentation form event lasted from 11:06:00/11:45:00.
