Another observer was Carol Newlon. | Elimination of similar species: Call notes and behavior strongly suggest longspur, as does association with lapland: tail pattern, face pattern, coloration suggest Smith's. (over) voice + strong facial pattern rules out vesper sparrow (as does numbers and behavior.
