Petersen completed the form from a phone conversation with Scharlott Blevins. | Elimination of similar species: Purple Finch - Male a more orange-red, not cranberry, red more restricted to head, breast + rump. Female/immat. no heavy dark mark by bill, finer streaking but more streaks below. | The original documentation form event lasted from 09:30:00/09:32:00.

Wilson is the only one submitted and forms the basis of this record. | Elimination of similar species: Uniform brown streaks on face eliminate Purple Finch, as does the thin bill. Sparrows are similar, usually have stouter bill + are less uniformly streaked - they have dark streaks on light underparts, + this one is just streaked all over. | The original documentation form event occurred in the afternoon for at most a minute.

Highlights of the update include reports of a growing number of waterfowl and Gulls from all parts of the state as well as many sightings of Western Grebes. Also of note were observations of all three Scoter species, a Long-tailed Duck, and Sandhill Cranes. Also included are handwritten notes for the next week's update with sightings of a Pacific Loon, Tundra Swans, and Golden Eagles.

Iowa RBA update for November 24, 1997. Highlights of the update include sightings of a Bohemian Waxwing, White-winged Crossbills, Common Redpolls, Long-tailed Ducks, and a first year Glaucous Gull. Also of interest were reports of an exotic Eurasian Goldfinch and an unconfirmed report of Harlequin Ducks.
