The documentation form by Thomas H. Kent is the only one submitted and forms the basis of this record. | Elimination of similar species: The size, elongated profile, and lack of sharp belly band but [sic] this bird in the category of Baird's or White-rumped Sandpiper. I have seen a number of Baird's at this location in the last few weeks. They were browner above and had a buffy breast. The streaks on the sides also suggested White-rumped. Having seen the white rump on two consecutive days convinced me of my first fall White-rumped Sandpiper for Iowa. | The original documentation form event lasted from 09:30:00/10:00:00 approximately.

Other observers include Doug Rose, Roger Rose, and Ken Lowder. | Elimination of similar species: Because of the fairly small size and conspicuous dark spot behind each eye, the bird must have been a Bonaparte's, Little, Common Black-headed, or Ross' gull, or a kittiwake. Separation from Bonaparte's Gull is discussed above. Little Gull eliminated by its smaller size, dark bill, lack of any black color on the upperwing, and uniformly dark underside to the flight feathers. Ross' Gull eliminated by tail shape, bill size and color, and darker underwing. Both kittiwakes eliminated by bill color, lighter mantle color, and differences in wing pattern. | The original documentation form event lasted from 16:17:00/16:42:00.

The documentation form by Josh Obrecht is the earliest and the one that forms the basis of this record. Other observers include Dave Obrecht. | Elimination of similar species: Common Goldeneye. I eliminated this species out because the bird I saw had only a little white on the speculum and a large yellow eye with a small pupil. The common Goldeneye has a lot of white on the speculum and a large pupil in the eye. | The original documentation form event lasted from 16:00:00/16:15:00.

The documentation form by Stephen J. Dinsmore is the only one submitted and forms the basis of this record. Other observers include Francis Moore and John Cecil. | Elimination of similar species: The only possible confusion would be with a male Common Goldeneye, thousands of which were available for direct comparison. The bill and head shapes, shape of the white facial spot, and mantle pattern were all diagnostic of an adult male Barrow's Goldeneye. | The original documentation form event lasted from 09:20:00/10:30:00.
