The mostly handwritten volume contains Leopold's detailed notes on the nesting habits of Wood Ducks, including the following: nest site selection, egg laying, incubation, hatching, and departure from the nest. Also included in this volume are newspaper clippings, correspondence, Clemson Agricultural College Leaflet No. 20 on the Wood Duck written by Robert E. Ware, instructions on how to build a Wood Duck nesting box, and an article from National Wildlife titled "Of spring and an egg" written by Jean George.
