The documentation by William and Rebecca Otto is the only one submitted and forms the basis of this record. | Elimination of similar species: [...] We eliminated the possibility of the gull being an immature Bonaparte's gull by the following criterion: 1. Leg color. The gulls legs and feet were entirely black. Bonaparte's gull have reddish legs. This was apparent at great distance on the immature Bonaparte's gulls present. 2. Primary feathers. The gull had black outer primaries and gray inner primaries. Immature Bonaparte's having some obvious white inner primaries.) 3. Behavior. Although this may seem rather unscientific, the gull not joining the groups of feeding or loafing gulls present seems significant to me. | The original documentation form event lasted around 30 minutes.

No direct comparison was available, but seemed larger, I'd say half-way in size between Bonaparte's + Ring-billed. Black legs, black half-collar, and lack of carpal bar helped eliminate Bonapartes. The documentation form by Joe Schaufenbuel is the only one submitted and forms the basis of this record. Other observers include Pauline Mooney, Dick Mooney, and Margaret Brooke. | Elimination of similar species: Too large for a Little gull. Neck bar separated it from a Bonaparte's and Sabine's. Notched tail also was useful in distinguishing it from Bonaparte's. | The original documentation form event lasted from 11:30:00/16:30:00.

The documentation form by James Scheib is the only one submitted and forms the basis of this record. | Elimination of similar species: I was thinking that it was a Boneparte's [sic] Gull, but the bill was the wrong color and the gray hood was prominent like in the field guide for the Black-legged Kittiwake. I believe the BLK is the only gull that has the eye crescent, the gray hood, and a yellow bill. | The original documentation form event lasted from approximately 10:00:00/10:05:00.
