The lack of tail band in the first year bird also excludes Thayer's Gull. Other observers include Jim Fuller, Jim Scheib, Tom Kent, Eugene Armstrong, and Eloise Armstrong. | Elimination of similar species: A non-breeding plumaged Piping Plover would be the only bird that could be similar. A Piping Plover has a conspicuous white rump in flight and a distinctive call-a 'peep-lo" which was different from the high musical whistle which we heard. A Semipalmated Plover would be much too dark brown in color. | The original documentation form event lasted from approximately 15:00:00/15:03:00.

Another observer was Sallie White. | Elimination of similar species: [...] Unlike the expected American Coot, this coot had a large and circular raised forehead which was yellow. The yellow was restricted to the raised portion. [...] This coot lacked the reddish circular protrusion at the top base of the bill. This coot was otherwise undistinguisable [sic] from the American Coots.

Summary of the Iowa Birdline update for July 1-October 15, 1994. Highlights of the update were mostly all water related, including reports of three Common Black-headed Gulls, an adult Long-tailed Jaeger, a Pacific Loon, and a Fulvous Whistling Duck. Other interesting observations included nesting Barn Owls and a family of Burrowing Owls seen in August, and Sharp-tailed Sparrow and Parasitic Jaeger sightings in September.
