Other observers include unidentified members of the Iowa State University Fisheries and Wildlife Biology Club. | Elimination of similar species: The American Crow and the Common Raven lack do not have [sic] such a long tail and they usually do not have white in their plumage. I had seen American Crows flying around the preserve earlier that morning. This bird definitely had a longer tail than the American Crows. Ring-necked Pheasants also have a long tail, but they do not normally have a [sic] black and white plumage. | The original documentation form event occurred around 09:45:00.

It had a 'blank look' around its eye. [...] This is definitely different from a Phil. Vireo with dark line through its eye and the Philadelphia's 'dark loral spot'. I've seen many Warbling Vireos (and have heard more) and I'm sure that it was a Warbling Vireo that I saw. | The original documentation form event lasted for 15 to 30 seconds.

Most of the empidonax sp. I have seen this fall have shown no yellow at all. Also conspicuous about this bird was the yellowish eye ring. Again, this contrasts with the whitish or eggshell color of the eyerings of other empids in the area. The bird remained within the canopy of the thicket, occasionally darting out, then returning. This behavior is different that other empids I have observed, which seem to utilize a more exposed perch.

Boreal owl is not known in Iowa, does not have long legs, has a much greyer face and relatively larger head. Northern saw whet owl does not have long legs, has vertical breast streaking, and a relatively larger head.
