Skuas are easily eliminated by their larger size, heavier bill, and more prominent white patches on the wings. Long-tailed Jaeger is eliminated by the presence of a white crescent on the upper surface of the wing. Separation from Bonaparte's Gull is discussed above. Little Gull eliminated by its smaller size, dark bill, lack of any black color on the upperwing, and uniformly dark underside to the flight feathers. Ross' Gull eliminated by tail shape, bill size and color, and darker underwing.
