The behavior is a bit supportive. Based on records for Iowa, we do not yet know which species is more likely. I have seen rather rufous appearing Semipalmated Sandpipers, but they looked much more uniform on the upper parts than this bird did. Sanderling larger with proportionately shorter bill, always shows dark bend of wing in basic plumage.
