The female Greater Scaup was much like the males in shape and size, but differed from the Lesser Scaup female in plumage slightly. The three Greater Scaups kept to themselves, surrounded by at least 75 other waterfowl, including the Lesser Scaup, Ring-necked Duck, Redhead and Ruddy Ducks. Side by side comparison with lesser scaup was thankfully easy. The male's rounded head contrasted clearly with the more pointed heads of the lesser scaup. Also, the dark green head of male was visible.
