The Lesser Scaups appeared smaller, peaked-headed, and duller on sides than the Greaters. Both of the females had a light colored area behind the eye that none of the female Lesser Scaup possessed. Later we went back. The only sparrows with black & white face pattern (Wh Crnd & Wh Throated) are only black & white from the eyes up. Only realized was seeing a longspur about the time the last male disappeared in the grass.
