A paper describing Frederic Leopold's Wood Duck nesting project which was later presented at Wood Duck Management and Research: A Symposium which was held on December 8-9, 1965. The paper covers several topics including the following: nest site selection, egg laying, predatory animals, egg incubation, hatching and departure of the ducklings, and how to handle orphaned ducklings. A table for the years 1943-1965 listing the number of nesting boxes available and used, the number of eggs laid and hatched, and the number of nests destroyed by predators is also included.

A report written by Frederic Leopold to address the issue of the continuing decline in waterfowl populations. Leopold voices concerns about the overly optimistic report from Ducks Unlimited regarding waterfowl population and the fact that the effects of over-hunting have been down played. F. Leopold references his brother Aldo Leopold and his book "Game Management" and the philosophy of limiting factors. F. Leopold believes that excessive hunting is the main limiting factor in the declining duck population and not loss of habitat.

A statement from Lotus Miller on behalf of the Ames Audubon Society in preparation for a public hearing on September 26, 1973, regarding the potential flooding of Ledges State Park due to the Saylorville Reservoir and dam project. The members of the society are concerned the flooding of the lower valley at Ledges State Park would destroy the habitat of the birds inhabiting the park, many of them rare species found nowhere else in Iowa. The members believe the best alternative to prevent the drastic change to the habitat and appearance of the lower canyon is a channel change barrier dam.
