Highlights of the update include the return of Killdeer and Red-winged Blackbirds to the state as well as the continued presence of Great Gray Owls and a Pinyon Jay. Other interesting observations were of a Snowy Owl, six Red Crossbills, and a first year Thayer's Gull. Iowa RBA update for January 20, 1997. Highlights of the update include sightings of an unusually large number of Snow Bunting flocks as well as a Pinyon Jay, an Evening Grosbeak, and a Prairie Falcon. Also of note were observations of Red Crossbills, a Common Redpoll, Snowy Owls, and a Long-tailed Duck. Also included are handwritten notes for the next week's update with sightings of a Common Loon and eight species of waterfowl.

Iowa RBA update for January 13-15, 1997. Highlights of the update include the continued presence of a Pinyon Jay, the return of a Varied Thrush, and an Evening Grosbeak. Other interesting observations were of nine Red Crossbills, two Snowy Owls, and a Northern Goshawk.
