Those differences were: 1) An over-all buffier (tanner or browner) color. 2) Light buffy chest that ended like a Pectoral but not a streaked-abrupt bib like Pectoral 3) Definite white eye brow 4) What appeared to be a dark brown cap on top of head. The only other species considered is juvenile Herring Gull. The size is small for Herring Gull. The elongated appearance and short legs fit California Gull. Most young Herrings that I see in early fall have mostly dark bills that are larger than that of this bird. The double inner wing bar and lighter tertial tips fit California Gull. California Gull was eliminated by the darker mantle, darker underwing and dark carpal bar, lack of a dark spot on the bill, and by the dark smudge at the base of the bill(this is characteristic of 3rd summer Lesser Black-backed Gulls and is never present on California Gulls). | The original documentation form event lasted from 10:08:00/12:10:00.
