A report from the committee that was appointed at the Iowa Ornithologists' Union annual meeting in 1926 to investigate the feasibility of selecting a state bird for Iowa. The plan from the committee suggests having members of the Iowa Ornithologists' Union nominate five birds which would be narrowed to a final nomination of five to six birds. The final nomination of birds would then be submitted to the school children of Iowa for them to vote and ultimately select the state bird. In order to cover the expense of this campaign, the committee suggests increasing membership dues by $1.00 per member.

An essay written by Walter Rosene reporting the findings from a study of nesting Great Horned Owls that he and Bob Walker completed over the course of seven years from 1934-1939. Included in the report are the outcomes from the eggs that were laid and brooded each year, the record of the food found in the nest, and the behavior of the owls. In the seven year study of this particular nesting site, six young birds grew to maturity and left the nest, and all of them were banded.

Also of note are details on several other topics, including bird fatalities, the return of previously banded birds, and the type of traps used in banding activities. The report also contains two tables. The first one is a comparative table of bird banding activities of Parsons College from January 1931-April 1937 with species and counts listed. The second table is a banding activities summary for 1936-37 at Parsons College with species and counts listed.

A report compiled by the members of the Committee of Bird Distribution in response to growing opinions that the current state bird list for Iowa may be misleading due to the fact that gives the status of each species on a state-wide basis. The committee has divided the state into 9 sections for a more accurate representation of when and where certain species of birds are observed. Then, based on information collected from IOU members from the past 15 years, the species were classified by when they were reported in the state, including summer resident or visitor, winter resident or visitor, spring or fall migrant, permanent resident, casual, or accidental. Also attached is the resulting checklist of each bird found in Iowa listed by species, state location, and classification as well as a list of several species that have been seen with enough frequency to warrant inclusion to the Iowa check-list.

A statement from Lotus Miller on behalf of the Ames Audubon Society in preparation for a public hearing on September 26, 1973, regarding the potential flooding of Ledges State Park due to the Saylorville Reservoir and dam project. The members of the society are concerned the flooding of the lower valley at Ledges State Park would destroy the habitat of the birds inhabiting the park, many of them rare species found nowhere else in Iowa. The members believe the best alternative to prevent the drastic change to the habitat and appearance of the lower canyon is a channel change barrier dam.
