A Varied Thrush was documented in Wellman along with Barbara Henderson, and also seen in Perry, Spencer, and Ames. Included was a G. Edgar Folk letter to Hollis regarding sightings of a Western Rufus-sided Towhee (Spotted Towhee) near Oxford, Iowa, January 27, 1984. These items were used as supporting documentation for the Iowa Ornithologists’ Union Quarterly field report of winter 1983-1984.

Nestings of Least Terns and Piping Plovers at the IPL ponds were described in detail with seven other observers, and many herons were seen near the Missouri River in Fremont County. Counts of House Sparrows were shown to decrease as livestock operations decreased, 1978-1984.
