A list of the most regularly observed bird species found in Story County as well as at Ledges State Park and in Greene County compiled by John Faaborg and Jim Rod, March 1970. Included is a list of the better birding locations found in Story, Boone, Greene, and Hamilton Counties including directions to the habitats as well as species commonly located at each destination. Also of note is a chart for the months of March, April, and May which shows the average arrival dates of common Iowa spring migrant birds.

Email of the Iowa Birdline update for September 19, 1994. Highlights of the update include sightings of a Long-tailed Jaeger, a Cattle Egret, a Peregrine Falcon, and a Red-necked Phalarope. Also of note were observations of eleven shorebird species at Otter Creek Marsh and a count of over a thousand Broad-winged Hawks passing over Grammer Grove Park. Also included are handwritten notes for the next week's update with sightings of Yellow Rails and a Parasitic Jaeger.

Shallow lake area with much emergent vegetation. Mudflat near the edge of the lake.

The documentation form by John C. Robinson is the only one submitted and forms the basis of this record. Other observers include Hank Zaletel, Paul Martsching, Dick Mooney, and Pauline Mooney. | Elimination of similar species: Green-winged Teal: Blue was seen in the forward edge of the wing when the birds described above were observed. Chestnut coloration also eliminates the Green-winged Teal. Head markings of male Green-winged Teal were not seen. Blue-winged Teal: Chestnut color on breast and lack of a white face mark eliminate the Blue-winged Teal. | The original documentation form event lasted from 15:00:00/15:15:00.
