Iowa RBA update for December 23, 1996. Highlights of the update include the continued presence of two montane species, the Clark's Nutcracker and an immature Pinyon Jay. In addition, the results from several Christmas bird counts held in various locations around the state are mentioned. Also included are handwritten notes for the next week's update with sightings of a male Evening Grosbeak, two first year Glaucous Gulls, and a gray Gyrfalcon.

She was perched at the top of a deciduous tree (locust?) in a small wooded area, dominated by deciduous trees. Some conifers were present. Kevin stated that when he first saw the bird it flew like a woodpecker (undulating) and landed in the tree.

Summary of the Iowa Birdline update for December 15, 1996-March 15, 1997. Highlights of the update include early winter sightings of an immature Pinyon Jay and a Clark's Nutcracker. Interesting observations from the Christmas Bird Count were sightings of a gray phase Gyrfalcon and a Pine Grosbeak. Also of note were the late winter sightings of Great Gray Owls, a Ferruginous Hawk, and a Townsend's Solitaire.
