Douglas C. Harr was born September 3, 1947 in Tacoma, Washington. A few years after he was born, his family moved to Monticello, Minnesota where he spent the rest of his childhood. After graduating from Monticello High School, Douglas went on to study at the University of South Dakota where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Management in 1969, and then his Masters of Science in Wildlife Biology in 1971. Douglas married Nina Harr and the couple had two children together, Ryan and Allison. After graduating from college, Douglas started working for the Iowa Conservation Commission, now the Department of Natural Resources, as a wildlife biologist. In 2001 he started working for the DNR’s Wildlife Diversity Program, and is now the Wildlife Diversity Program Coordinator. Douglas joined the Iowa Ornithologists’ Union in 1977, and is also a member of the Prairie Lakes Audubon Society, where he served as president and the Christmas Bird Count Coordinator. In 2004 Douglas was the vice president of the State of Iowa Audubon Society, and would later serve as president. Douglas is also the Iowa Coordinator for the National Breeding Bird Survey and has served on the technical committee for the Important Bird Areas program. |
