Summary for the Iowa Birdline update for May 13, 1990. Highlights of the update include two reports of Western Kingbirds from further east in the state than they are usually seen and a noticeable increase in the number of Warbler sightings statewide. Also of note were sightings of a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, a Sandhill Crane, and a Mississippi Kite flyover. In addition, there were reports of many species of shorebirds, including 3 Wilson's Phalaropes and 20 Hudsonian Godwits.

Also of note was the large number of passerine migrants entering the state, including Blue Jays, Brown Creepers, Brown Thrashers, Indigo Buntings, and Yellow-rumped Warblers. Other interesting observations included early Lapland Longspurs and Red-breasted Mergansers as well as a sighting of an estimated 2400 Chimney Swifts.
