Many species were counted and several excellent birds were observed during the Christmas censuses, including a possible Least Flycatcher, Black Scoters, Horned Grebes, and a Townsend's Solitaire. Also included are handwritten notes indicating the continued presence of a Least Flycatcher and a Western Grebe.

Iowa Birdline update for October 1, 1990. Highlights of the update include the sighting of a Yellow Rail and the continued presence of two Scissor-tailed Flycatchers. Also of note was the large number of passerine migrants entering the state, including Blue Jays, Brown Creepers, Brown Thrashers, Indigo Buntings, and Yellow-rumped Warblers. Other interesting observations included early Lapland Longspurs and Red-breasted Mergansers as well as a sighting of an estimated 2400 Chimney Swifts.

Also of note were sightings of a very late Black Tern, a female Black-throated Blue Warbler, and numerous shorebirds and waterfowl. Also included is an update on the sighting of two rare birds, a Sharp-tailed Sandpiper and a Mew Gull.

Notes for the Iowa Birdline update for October 15, 1990. Highlights of the notes include the sightings of a Mew Gull and a Sharp-tailed Sandpiper as well as the continued presence of a California Gull and a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher. Also of note was a one day observation of 81 total species, including 14 shorebird species at Coralville Lake. Others interesting sightings were of 10,000 Tree Swallows and 12 species of sparrows, including a Le Conte's and a Lincoln's.

Highlights of the update include sightings of an adult Lesser Black-backed Gull, an early Horned Grebe, an adult Tundra Swan, a Prairie Falcon, and a Pileated Woodpecker. Also of note was the return of an Evening Grosbeak to a feeder and a sighting of a Franklin's Gull in breeding plumage.

Notes for the Iowa Birdline update for March 5, 1990. Highlights of the update include numerous sightings of waterfowl, including Common Mergansers, Goldeneyes, Bufflehead, and Hooded Mergansers. In addition to the waterfowl sightings, Blackbirds, Robins, and Killdeer all began appearing in greater numbers. Also of note were observations of an Iceland Gull, a Northern Saw-whet Owl, and an adult Golden Eagle.
