Notes for the Iowa Birdline update for August 29, 1988. Highlights of the update include several excellent sightings from Forneys Lake, including six Ibis species, 162 Great Blue Herons, 58 Great Egrets, 14 Snowy Egrets, 3 American Avocets, 2 Bald Eagles, Ring-billed Gulls, and Franklin's Gulls. Also abundant during the week were Warblers, with 14 species seen in central Iowa and 7 species seen in the Iowa City area.

Notes for the Iowa Birdline update for circa September 6, 1988. Highlights of the update include sightings of a Western Tanager, Merlins, Sandhill Cranes, Caspian Terns, a Yellow-billed Cuckoo, and several Heron species. Also of note was the report of excellent shore birding from Hendrickson Marsh Lake, including sightings of three Red-necked Phalaropes and two species of Sandpipers.

Notes for the Iowa Birdline update for September 13, 1988. Highlights of the update include sightings of a Swainson's Hawk, two Sandhill Cranes, four Ospreys, and numerous Caspian Terns. Also of note were observations of many species of shorebirds, ten species of Warblers, and a discovery of an injured immature Red-shouldered Hawk.

Notes for the Iowa Birdline update for September 19, 1988. Highlights of the update include a recap of sightings from the fall IOU meeting, including a flyover Black-billed Magpie, nine raptor species, and a variety of Warblers for a total of 106 species seen. Also of note from around the state were observations of two rarely seen birds, a Western Tanager and a Prairie Falcon. In addition, sightings of several hundred American White Pelicans, 62 Caspian Terns, and an immature Black-crowned Night Heron were also reported.
