[...] At this point, I thought it could be a Scarlet Tanager. [...] As I watched it, the bird was taking off from the grass, flying into the air to snatch an insect, then landing on a nearby fence. Iowa RBA update for May 12, 1997. Highlights of the update include sightings of a Black-throated Gray Warbler and nesting Black-billed Magpies as well as the continued presence of a White-winged Dove. There were numerous other observations, including a Prairie Warbler, a Marbled Godwit, a light-phase Ferruginous Hawk, a Red-throated Loon, and a Pacific Loon. Also included are handwritten notes for the next week's update with sightings of a Western Tanager and a Fish Crow.

Iowa RBA update for May 5, 1997. Highlights of the update include three sightings of a White-winged Dove which had never been seen in the state prior to April 1997. There were numerous other observations, including Yellow-crowned Night Heron, Worm-eating Warbler, Marbled Godwit, Black-billed Magpies, and Greater Prairie Chickens. Also included are handwritten notes for the next week's update with sightings of a Black-throated Gray Warbler, Western Kingbird, and a Yellow Rail.
