Notes for the Iowa Birdline update for September 19, 1988. Highlights of the update include a recap of sightings from the fall IOU meeting, including a flyover Black-billed Magpie, nine raptor species, and a variety of Warblers for a total of 106 species seen. Also of note from around the state were observations of two rarely seen birds, a Western Tanager and a Prairie Falcon. In addition, sightings of several hundred American White Pelicans, 62 Caspian Terns, and an immature Black-crowned Night Heron were also reported.

Highlights of the update include several excellent sightings from Forneys Lake, including six Ibis species, 162 Great Blue Herons, 58 Great Egrets, 14 Snowy Egrets, 3 American Avocets, 2 Bald Eagles, Ring-billed Gulls, and Franklin's Gulls. Also abundant during the week were Warblers, with 14 species seen in central Iowa and 7 species seen in the Iowa City area.

Summary for the Iowa Birdline update for May 13, 1990. Highlights of the update include two reports of Western Kingbirds from further east in the state than they are usually seen and a noticeable increase in the number of Warbler sightings statewide. Also of note were sightings of a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, a Sandhill Crane, and a Mississippi Kite flyover. In addition, there were reports of many species of shorebirds, including 3 Wilson's Phalaropes and 20 Hudsonian Godwits.

Notes for the Iowa Birdline update for April 23, 1990. Highlights of the update include sightings of a Snowy Plover, a Northern Mockingbird, a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, and two White-winged Crossbills. Also of note was the presence of only one Smith's Longspur when there had been several hundred observed in the preceding weeks. In addition, there were sightings of several species of shorebirds and Warblers.

Iowa Birdline update for September 24, 1990. Highlights of the update include the sighting of a Yellow Rail and the continued presence of a California Gull. Also of note was the occurrence of a strong cold front that sent most of the less hardy Warblers south of the state while ushering in a few winter birds. Other interesting observations included a late male Scarlet Tanager, the first Dark-eyed Junco of the fall, 100 American White Pelicans, 125 Great Blue Herons, and 1000 Double-crested Cormorants.
