Female Northern Cardinal has a crest, black around the mouth, a reddish bill and a proportionately longer tail. [...] I observed a conspicuous superciliary strip but otherwise, the bird did not look right for a Carolina. The body appeared slimmer than a Carolina, and the tail was longer.
