Among 47 species observed, many Little Blue Herons and Cattle Egrets were seen at Folsom Lake, with the first nesting evidence for Iowa. A Chestnut-sided Warbler was found singing in Grundy County and documented, a Black-necked Stilt was documented at Union Slough NWR, and a Great-tailed Grackle was documented at the IPL Cooling Ponds. Cuculidae were not very common, but Yellow-throated Vireos were in high numbers for southwest Iowa. Anderson had told him that the Iowa Bald Eagle nest at "Dead Haines" (in Allamakee County) had fledged two young. Fourteen Bald Eagles were seen near Lansing and New Albin in the spring, along with nine other bird species, but status of their nests was uncertain. Among eight species observed in the summer, Winter Wrens were heard singing and Orchard Orioles were seen at Wantea Point.
