The intense low pressure system produced one of the greatest mass migrations of waterfowl and the largest migration of Sandhill Cranes recorded in Iowa. The most unusual reports were of 500 or more Sandhill Cranes moving south near Council Bluffs. Additionally, tens of thousands of Snow Geese were reported throughout Iowa, far east of their usual migration path. Also of note were the thousands of that ducks were reported statewide when there had been few present in the preceding weeks.
