Iowa RBA update for November 24, 1997. Highlights of the update include sightings of a Bohemian Waxwing, White-winged Crossbills, Common Redpolls, Long-tailed Ducks, and a first year Glaucous Gull. Also of interest were reports of an exotic Eurasian Goldfinch and an unconfirmed report of Harlequin Ducks. Also of note were sightings of a very late Black Tern, a female Black-throated Blue Warbler, and numerous shorebirds and waterfowl. Notes for the Iowa Birdline update for September 19, 1988. Highlights of the update include a recap of sightings from the fall IOU meeting, including a flyover Black-billed Magpie, nine raptor species, and a variety of Warblers for a total of 106 species seen. Also of note from around the state were observations of two rarely seen birds, a Western Tanager and a Prairie Falcon. In addition, sightings of several hundred American White Pelicans, 62 Caspian Terns, and an immature Black-crowned Night Heron were also reported.

Summary of the Iowa Birdline update for September 1-November 30, 2000. Highlights of the update include exceptional sightings of a Pygmy Nuthatch, a Swallow-tailed Kite, a juvenile Parasitic Jaeger, and a family of three Whopping Cranes. Also of note was the extensive number and variety of fall gull sightings that were seen throughout the state. A fall Hawk watch resulted in some interesting observations, including 38 Mississippi Kites as well as large numbers of Prairie Falcons, Northern Goshawks, and Golden Eagles.

Highlights of the update include sightings of a pair of birds with only two previous state records, a Lewis's Woodpecker and a female Vermilion Flycatcher were both seen in October. Other interesting observations were sightings of Black-throated Blue Warbler and a Yellow Rail in September at the IOU fall meeting. In addition, the Lake Red Rock area produced many exciting bird sightings, including a juvenile Laughing Gull, a Mississippi Kite, Red-throated Loons, and Pacific Loons.

Summary of the Iowa Birdline update for July 1-October 15, 1994. Highlights of the update were mostly all water related, including reports of three Common Black-headed Gulls, an adult Long-tailed Jaeger, a Pacific Loon, and a Fulvous Whistling Duck. Other interesting observations included nesting Barn Owls and a family of Burrowing Owls seen in August, and Sharp-tailed Sparrow and Parasitic Jaeger sightings in September.

Summary of the Iowa Birdline update for June 15-September 15, 1995. Highlights of the update include the sightings of several summer nesters in June and July, including Prairie Warblers, Mississippi Kites, and Bewick's Wrens. Unusual observations of shorebirds were noted in July and August, and the majority of September sightings were of several species of Gulls. Also of note in September was a first record for the state with the discovery of a juvenile White Ibis.

Summary of the Iowa Birdline update for March 15-June 15, 1996. Highlights of an outstanding spring season for rarities include sightings of Mountain Bluebirds, a Townsend's Solitaire and five Cinnamon Teal reports in March. Other interesting observations of note were April sightings of a Ruff, a Fish Crow, Chestnut-collared Longspurs, and an unusually large number of White Faced Ibis. A sighting of Lazuli Buntings as well as a second state record of two Glossy Ibis were reported in May and a MacGillivray's Warbler was spotted in June.

Other interesting observations include the variety of gulls that took up residence in Iowa for the summer, a July sighting of a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, and September sightings of Marbled Godwits and a Black-throated Blue Warbler.

Summary of the Iowa Birdline update for September 15-November 15, 1997. Highlights of the update include a sighting of a large flock of Lark Buntings in September and a continued presence of Eurasian Collared Doves throughout the fall. Other interesting observations of note were a Pacific Loon sighting in October, several unusual gull reports in October and November, and a late Ruby-throated Hummingbird spotted at a feeder in November.

Summary of the Iowa Birdline update for December 15, 1997-March 15, 1998. Highlights of the update include sightings of two Ross's Gulls, an adult Black-legged Kittiwake, and seven different Snowy Owl observations in December. Very unusual reports of a Common Raven and a Sprague's Pipit were reported in February. Other interesting observations were of a mid-winter sighting of a Summer Tanager in January and February as well as a continued winter presence of White-winged Crossbills.
