Notes for the Iowa Birdline update for September 19, 1988. Highlights of the update include a recap of sightings from the fall IOU meeting, including a flyover Black-billed Magpie, nine raptor species, and a variety of Warblers for a total of 106 species seen. Also of note from around the state were observations of two rarely seen birds, a Western Tanager and a Prairie Falcon. In addition, sightings of several hundred American White Pelicans, 62 Caspian Terns, and an immature Black-crowned Night Heron were also reported.

Notes for the Iowa Birdline update for July 25, 1988. Highlights of the update include sightings of Henslow's Sparrows and Sandhill Cranes as well as the continued presence of a Hooded Warbler. Also of note was the large number of shorebirds being observed throughout the state, including Dowitchers and a Stilt Sandpiper. In addition, a birding trip to the Lake Red Rock and Runnells area produced 75 species of birds, including Hen Harrier, American Bittern, and 8 species of shorebirds.

Also abundant during the week were Warblers, with 14 species seen in central Iowa and 7 species seen in the Iowa City area.

Notes for the Iowa Birdline update for December 19, 1988. Highlights of the update include the results of several Christmas Bird Counts from around the state. Also of note were the interesting birds that were observed during the count, including Sandhill Cranes, an adult Great Black-backed Gull, Glaucous Gulls, and Northern Saw-whet Owls.
